First week of August, and even though it feels as if everyone in Italy has gone to the beach, this week's Italy on a Plate is full of both great summer recipes and food stories. Starting with dessert first, we have Italian doughnuts (bombolini). Other recipes include Umbrian cheese bread, a pizza with potato & artichokes, 4 light pasta dishes, and chocolate (or cocoa) gnocchi!!!
It seems like the country has gone gelato mad these last couple of weeks with best gelato posts galore. This week is no different. In Eating Italy we have two "best of" lists for gelato in Rome and one naming the best 25 in all of Italy. Along with gelato, the Divina Cucina celebrates her 500th post with a book giveaway. (Head over there by August 10 to enter.) You'll also read about anchovies in Liguria, where to find seafood in Rome, more on where to eat in Rome in August, food & wine in Puglia, Campania and Trieste, pizza in Le Marche, and even a shout out to Food Lover's Odyssey and other Italy food and wine blogs.
For those traveling to Italy in the Fall, the Italy Food and Wine Festivals section is filled with many Fall festivals you can attend. If you are in Italy now, this Wednesday, August 10, be sure to find a Calice di Stelle wine event happening in many cities throughout the bel paese. Enjoy and Buon Appetito!
